After a whole day of fun under the sun, some of us still have trouble falling asleep at night. We have combined our love for cacao together with our desire to get enough rest for the day and have created a delicious recipe that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
This luscious hot cacao cherry sleep aid isn’t only a delight to sip on but it contains all the sleep-inducing ingredients that will make you fall into a deep slumber – pronto! The star ingredient in this recipe is tart cherries. Aside from being an antioxidant powerhouse, the cherries are a great melatonin booster which helps to regulate sleep and wakefulness.
Now who says you can’t have an indulgent drink before your shut eye? And when you have a good night’s sleep, you wake up feeling refreshed, happy and ready to take on another sunny day!
HOT CACAO CHERRY SLEEP AID
(makes one serving)
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
1/3 cup of pitted cherries
60 grams of vegan dark chocolate (3 squares)
1 tbsp of raw cacao powder
2 tsp of rice malt syrup
1. Puree the pitted cherries in an immersion blender until smooth. Place the cherry puree in a mug and set aside.
2. Heat the almond milk in a small saucepan over low heat. When the milk starts to bubble at the sides, turn off the stove.
3. Add in the dark chocolate squares into the warm almond milk. Then, add in the raw cacao powder and rice malt syrup. Whisk until the dark chocolate squares are melted and the raw cacao powder is dissolved.
4. Pour the hot chocolate into the mug and stir to make sure the cherry puree is evenly mixed. Top the beverage with vegan marshmallows and more cherries.
